iQtek Foundation is a non-profit organization that believes access to technology, digital knowledge, and innovation are fundamental pillars for the development of human capital. The foundation focuses on empowering young people and adolescents with the skills and opportunities needed to improve their quality of life and strengthen the social fabric through technology.
The project was developed in the context of a charity golf tournament held at Corales Golf Club in Punta Cana. The event brought together 128 players competing in a scramble format, distributed across categories A, B, and C, and was officially endorsed by the Dominican Golf Federation. In addition to the competitive component, the tournament aimed to raise funds for technological development programs and to support Fundación Red Misericordia.
challenge
This project required a product that could adapt existing golf interaction patterns to a temporary, event-based context: fast onboarding, minimal learning curve, and absolute clarity during live play. At the same time, the system needed to support real-time score validation and centralized control through an admin platform, ensuring consistency between players and organizers. The core challenge was to design an experience that felt familiar to golfers, yet precise, reliable, and purpose-built for a live tournament environment.
SOLUTIONS
The solution consisted of designing a complete UI ecosystem covering both the player-facing mobile app and an administrative web platform, ensuring the tournament could be managed digitally from end to end.
The mobile app was designed to be used live during the tournament, prioritizing speed, clarity, and ease of use in an outdoor, time-sensitive environment.
Key use cases included:
Player authentication and access to their assigned tournament
Real-time score entry per hole with immediate visual feedback
Score review and confirmation to reduce errors during gameplay
Access to leaderboard views to follow tournament progress
Clear navigation optimized for quick interactions between holes
The UI emphasized high contrast, large touch targets, and a simple information hierarchy to support usability under bright light and on-the-go conditions.
In parallel, a dedicated admin interface was designed to manage the full lifecycle of the tournament before and during the event.
Admin use cases included:
Tournament creation and configuration (format, categories, handicap rules)
Player registration and editing of player information
Group and tee-time management
Real-time score monitoring and validation
Leaderboard management and result visualization
Content management for events, categories, media, and advertising
User roles, permissions, and access control
RESULTS
The app was successfully used during the charity golf tournament, enabling players to record and validate scores in real time while reducing reliance on manual processes. The digital system improved accuracy, streamlined tournament operations, and provided organizers with immediate visibility into scores and standings.
