This is a fictional redesign project of the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum website, developed as a final project for a Web Design Master’s degree. The concept is inspired by Constructivism and 20th-century avant-garde movements, translating their structural, bold, and functional visual language into a contemporary digital interface. The redesign aims to visually connect the website with the modern and avant-garde artworks showcased in the museum’s collection, creating a stronger coherence between content and interface.
challenge
The challenge was to rethink the visual identity of the museum’s website while respecting its cultural context and institutional nature. The goal was to move away from a neutral, conventional museum interface and instead propose a bold UI approach that reflects the expressive and structural qualities of modern art, without compromising readability, hierarchy, or usability.
SOLUTIONS
I focused on UI design, defining a brutalist-inspired visual system influenced by Constructivism and avant-garde principles. The solution is based on strong typographic contrast, rigid grid structures, bold spacing, and high visual hierarchy. The interface prioritizes clarity and impact, using composition and rhythm as key design elements. All screens were designed to reinforce the connection between the museum’s digital presence and the artistic movements represented in its collection.
RESULTS
The result is a conceptual yet functional website redesign that offers a distinctive visual identity aligned with the museum. The project demonstrates how a strong UI concept can enhance cultural storytelling and create a more memorable digital experience, while remaining usable and structured.
